Winterset City Campground and RV Park

This is one of the best city parks I have stayed at. I snagged a pull thru which us w/e only. It looks like most of the back ins are FHU. Lots of space between sites, very level, dump station and very quiet. The City Park is amazing. Their Accessible Playground is great. This is an excellent location for families or anyone wanting to visit the Bridges of Madison County and the John Wayne Museum and Birthplace. The Bridge tour us about 80 miles, lots of gravel roads. Be sure to stop by the Chamber of Commerce first to grab maps. There is also a covered bridge app which gives you an audio tour on each bridge and other stops.

Nice clean park with wide level spaces. Close to an adorable downtown area with shops and restaurants. Next door to the city park as well as an amazing dog park on the other side, just a little further down. The covered bridges of Madison County were also fun to drive around to. Don't forget to stop at the drugstore on the square for an amazing burger and the walk-up ice cream shop Frostees was delicious! 

This is a good sized RV Park (40+/- sites) next to a nice city park.  One of the Madison County bridges is within an easy walk to visit.  The mostly back-in gravel sites are not quite level front to back and side to side - they are off gravel access roads.  The modern convenient full hookups functioned properly.  Some OTA stations, and a big sky for satellite - the Verizon cell service was good.  Make your reservations on line, and there will be a card with your name and dates at your spot.

Nice city park. We had a 50amp FHU site reserved months in advance for early June 2022. We had a picnic table and there was a fire pit behind our site. Our area had no shade as I remember. Very friendly camp hosts. Gravel site. Winterset has a cute downtown area. Many of the shops had hanging baskets to adorn the streets. Ben Franklin downtown which I haven’t seen one in many years. We accomplished what we really came for and that was touring John Wayne’s Birthplace and Museum. And obtained a map and found all the bridges of Madison County. Would return if we happened to be in the area.

We had site 19, which was at the far end and very quiet. The park is great for hiking! The sites were decently sized and level. You are supposed to share the water spigot with your neighbor, but the location of the spigots requires a very long hose (we have a 50 foot hose and that wasn’t long enough!) 

Awesome park in a very historic part of the country. Park was very clean and very quiet. Definitely a hidden gem. Our site had only water and electric which is why the price was lower than some others.

I stayed here in my 35' 5th wheel. I had a pull thru spot with E/W hookups. and there is a dump station available. There are some full hookup sites available, but they were occupied. My space was set off away from most of the other sites. Some of them are fairly close, but most are spacious and there is a large expanse of green around the park and it is located between a lovely city park and a sports park. The roads/site were gravel. Most of the spaces are open to the sun. The bathhouse is bare concrete block. The two shower stalls shared a bench. No wifi available.  The GPS was a bit confused so don't follow it. Go to the intersection of south 10th and Court. I was only here for an overnight, but it would be okay for a little longer stay since it is near all the covered bridges of Madison County.

You must call ahead it is not walk in as web site suggests.  New manager is very nice.  Camp hosts very friendly.   Clean and super quiet.   Great views and the neighboring park and town are so cute.  Highly recommend.  Full hook up and 50 amp for 22.00 a night!

AM!ZING park in a very historic park.  Sites are great.  People very nice!  Loved every minute.  You do need to call and make reservations.  Full hook up sites.  All sites are great.  Very very clen.

This is a beautiful little city park in Winterset, Iowa.  But finding it was not easy. We had a GPS and an iPhone 6S.   Our iPhone took us to a trailhead deep in the woods outside of town with a steep low-water crossing that dragged the tow bar really hard.  Had to disconnect and maneuver a lot to get back out.  That wasn't the right place.  Next, we followed our GPS and it took us to a neighborhood. That wasn't it either.  We finally pulled up a satellite image of the town and looked for an RV park and found it. Here's  the problem. The streets on the east side of town are called streets and the streets on the west side of town are called avenues.  The park location is 10th street and the GPS was taking us to 10th avenue on the other side of town. Make sure you are going to 10th street.  The iPhone was trying to get us to 10th street, but took us into the woods that  bordered the RV park that were not connected to it by roads and we couldn't see the park because of the dense trees.  We were close, but didn't know it.  Once we found it on the satellite view and just guided ourselves there with the street map, it was a great park with full hookups, nice grounds and facilities.  There is a city number to call for reservations. Most of the sites were reserved already with name cards on the posts, but since we were staying just overnight, they told us to find a site for which the reservation shown was a couple days in the future.  Perfect! We stayed in a 33-foot motorhome. 

Good hookups, nice space between spots,TV reception on antenna. You can make reservations for a $4 extra fee.

Beautiful quiet campground,clean nice sized pads! Highly recommend for the price, enjoyed seeing john Wayne museum & bridges of madison county! Nice hike to Clark tower & dog friendly!!!😊🐕❤

Quiet, well maintained.  Sites are first come, first served but can occasionally be reserved for large groups.  We had called the city park office earlier to check on availability.  Wonderful city park directly adjacent with great play areas and one of the covered bridges in the area.   Our RV had water, sewer and electric and was $ 20 a nihht.

Worst City Park we have pulled in to.  Usually City Parks are "first come first served".  There were at least 10 sites open when we pulled in at 4:00 on s Thursday. We walked around and stopped to ask the camp host which site we could camp at just for night. The "host" did not even bother to step out of his camper. Just said "I got nothin for ya".  It feels like a local hangout where you can only camp if you are part of the "group".
