Raton Pass Camp & Cafe

Easy access with directions given ahead of arriving.  Beautiful campground.  Easy pull thorough spot for our motorhome and toad.  The bath house was tremendous.  Very nice, clean, and tiled, with plenty of warm water.  Three shower stalls with attached dressing area divided with shower curtains.  Washers and dryers available also. We would definitely stay there again. 

The park has great views south of the pass looking down at Raton, but is a bit tricky to access. Fortunately, the staff sends a text on the day of arrival with instructions. The spaces are tight, even with my 22’ rig.  We didn’t stay. The owner cancelled our reservation (we did get a refund) due to a disagreement we had about how I was backing my rig in.   I decided to post a review, since the last one was in 2023, to let folks about the tight spaces.  Also, read the cancellation policy closely. It’s very restricted.  

There is the rate and then there is the "platform" charge and if you reserve online there is the "Rover Pass" charge of $8 which is non refundable.  Best check all the fine print.

Just passing thru for 2 nights. Interesting park at the top of Raton Pass. Some sites have great view. Our site had 9k view. Gravel sites but level. Good TMob & ATT service. VZW not useable. Staff was friendly & helpful. We stayed in 40 ft class A, towing. We did not use facilities. We would stay here again.

Elevation of 7,880. Rv park looks over the pass. 1st time here. The host put us in a great pull through spot for our 41ft 5th. With just a couple sites occupied, our view was great! Mountain pass on one end, snow capped mountain ranges on to the other end. If full, campers would block much of it. If you have shorter rigs, you site selection would be advantageous as you could have beautiful views out your rear living room window or side window area! Host and staff has been super! Very kind and helpful. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! 

We stayed 2 nights on our way to the Grand Canyon.  The park was soon to close for the winter and was not very busy so we were upgraded to a full view site which was the best thing about our site. It was level, gravel and would be very tight had there been a few more guests.  The laundry was clean and very reasonably priced.  There was a large deer browsing below our trailer. Short walking paths and no dogs on the "grass" patches.  Would not stay here again

Ok for a quick overnight stop. Would not want to stay here more than that. Owner was friendly. Cell service non-existent and unable to stay connected to wifi. Fit 71ft long rig without unhooking.  

Called yesterday to book later this week. Was told I'd get an email to pay, didn't receive it. Called today to share trying to pay for reservation, she reserved it for the wrong date and sent it to the wrong email. When I finally got emails from rover pass (their transaction payment online) it was asking em to approve the reservation and again was on the wrong date. When I called back she wanted to blame me for explaining to her the emails I'm receiving are not accurate and got angry at me saying "no one else has had these problems" instead of listening and admitting she made mistakes. She didn't want to have any part of customer service and was upset at someone wanting to pay her for a reservation.  Not a great way to run a business at all. Thankfully the reservation we needed wasn't for tonight or we'd be in a major bind. Avoid this rude woman. Never been treated with such attitude for trying to do the right thing,  lock in the reservation and pay ahead. 

It’s a pretty location IF you get a good site. We did not! We are in Site #22 with no view and our front door and living area are in the road. We cannot sit outside under the awnings because we are in the roadway. No privacy, no outdoor living. There are beautiful sites that overlook the canyon, but we were not so blessed! Maybe our 37’ rv is too large. The park was impeccably clean and very well maintained. We are parked beside the bath house and there is a semi-truck parked at out front door. Disappointed that we could not see the sunset and canyon, but we will come back and ask for a site overlooking the canyon.

Unfriendly/hostile management and staff.  Very cramped spaces.  WIFI non-existant.  My trailed fit in the back in spot but my truck barely fit and hung out in the road a bit.  There is only 2 spaces to park your vehicle if it wont fit at your spot.  Not much to do in the area.  Raton NM and Trinidad NM are a bit dumpy.  

Crappy site behind store.  Should take off price for this.  All we saw was back of store.  Will not stop here ahain.

Very helpful & friendly staff. Gorgeous view from the top of the pass looking out over (I would guess) most of northern New Mexico! I would definitely stay here again!

Stayed there many times over the years, some were pleasant, others times weren’t, tight fit for a large fiver, managers can be rude. I will avoid from now on

It was a last minute decision to spend the night before entering Colorado and this was the first place I call. Very friendly lady on the phone, as well as the man who showed us our spot. The sites are a bit crowded for our needs with three children and two large dogs, but they have beautiful views and were very clean and maintained. We did upset a neighbor as we were up at the crack of dawn packing up and our dogs got excited with someone walking their dog. He was not having a good morning and I felt bad. We did control our dogs within seconds, but it still probably upset all the neighbors because of how close we were. Aside from that, lovely place but won’t return unless we no longer have dogs to avoid upsetting neighbors. 

Wonderful place for an overnight stop. The high altitude means cooler temperature and panoramic views. The only negative was that the cafe was closed. 

Great place to stop for us flatlanders to begin to adapt to higher altitudes. Cool breezes and wonderful low humidity after escaping the heat at lower altitudes. Great overnight on your way north or south.  People running it were very friendly as were the other campers. Power was stable (30 and 50 amp) full hookups. Verizon was spotty and could seldom connect with WiFi but we stayed on lower level. Bathhouse and laundry are on upper level and WiFi was better when we sat on couch at laundry and watched the multiple hummingbirds arguing over the many feeders. Beautiful views out the rear window of our 5th.   Lots of different birds including a yellow warbler who hated his reflection in our side window. We will defiantly be back just to sit and relax. Stayed in a 31ft 5th wheel with full hookups.

Convenient stop at the top of Raton Pass. Beautiful views and reasonably quiet considering it is so close to I25. Heading north towards Trinidad there is a long stretch of 2 way traffic due to rock slides so glad we stopped for the night.

I just wrote the Great Overnight review  and neglected to point out that this is our  second stay June 29, 2017.

We stayed here a few years ago and were impressed with the physical layout and the friendliness of the staff.   We did not use the bathroom or shower but they were immatulate.   Hook ups are easily accessible and also well maintained. 
That said this is a great  overnight but has little to offer for a long term stay. 
Also, as for location it could not be handier,  on and off at exit 460.  The fellow who could not find it probably couldn't find his own ass with both hands 
We will definitely stay here again. 

Had the hardest time locating this rv park. Should have put in Cedar Rail Rv park in gps as Raton pass and address would never come up. We have stayed at KOA in town and think probably will stay there next time. This park is about 9 miles out of town on hill.  The host were nice. he helped us back in which was a pleasant surprise as the sites are really close and we end up in hanging 3 ft over the cliff with a 40 ft drop once we were parked.  Windy but Great views. We have verizon and had no reception on own phone unless we walked outside. The park wifi went down and was down all day. I went to office and she had no idea it was down but once she got chance to check it she got it going right away. Only 2 washers and dryers so every time I went to wash they were being used. Nothing bad to say about this Rv park...just would prefer to be in town and really like the KOA better. 

Nasty telephone conversation, nasty park rules okay sites, but we will not be back.  Good luck if your name has more than 3 letters, getting it spelled correctly.

Spent the night there on our to Colorado Springs. Under new management and we were please. The restaurant no longer is open but Trinidad and Raton offer goood eats. Call before stopping, they have three pull through and many back in.

Spent 3 nights there. After 2nd night, ACCUSED of damaging electric box with slide. Threaten to call sheriff and arrested for defrauding an innkeeper and paying for damages. To say the least, it was ugly. If we were only there for 1 night and left, we would have been blamed as they didn't get their facts straight. Turns out, damage was done by a unit 2-3 people before us. Their accusations ruined our whole stay in that area. Have to review with a star-this place deserves a negative 5 star rating. Better off staying at the nice Walmart a few miles away in Trinidad. 

Great place to stop after making the pull up Raton Pass. Convenient  half way between Raton and Trinidad. Some of the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen. We stayed on the upper level in a 30 ft 5th wheel on 6/17-20, 2016. Cafe is closed.

This was a great place to stay.  The view from the campground was awesome and we were able to see deer in the early evening The showers and restrooms were clean. The sites were roomy and easy to access.  We will stay here again. 

This is our fourth year to camp here on our way to Colorado.  Breath taking views, nice clean campground with nice owners. Now they have a cafe so we don't have to unhook! Smells like chicken-fried steak!!
