Petersburg Campground (COE)

I'm writing this as I enjoy my breakfast and staring at the lake. We got away for a few days and was extremely surprised by this campground. Very clean, quiet and beautiful views. We stayed in #8 but honestly every site is perfect. Bathrooms and showers are okay, nothing fancy but very clean and great water pressure.  Bring your bikes or e-bikes and enjoy the ride around the campground. Host, Amy and Kevin were extremely helpful. We'll definitely be back again in the future. 

This place is one of the best COEs we have been to!  Most sites have a lake view and very spacious. Nice coves to kayak in. The biggest problem I saw was that there was some trash…but that’s due to the people who stay there!  Whatever happened to KP before leaving your campsite?

I attempted to obtain a refund because I was not aware that COE's honored America The Beautiful Senior passes.  My request was declined.  I contacted Recreation.gov who agreed that I should have received a discount.  They resubmitted the request to the Facility Manager who ignored it.  I called and spoke to the Manager at Petersburg and he claims ignorance, then got short tempered with me and hung up. 

We arrived in the rain and it rained for the 2 nights we were there.  Campground is set back off the main road so it was quiet.  Wind off the lake made for a rocking camper.  Sites were nice and clean.  Know your site before you reserve.  Each site is different (part of the charm) but since services are always in a different spot, what works for one RV may not work for another.  Our site 34 was a horseshoe in/out with services inside the horseshoe so that worked for our motorhome.  Since the sites are at the edge of the lake you need to drive down into them and they are not level.  Hardpack site but approach and exit washed out.  Standing water in site.  Showerhouse was functional. Staff was very nice.Beach looked nice if it wasn't +-45⁰ at the time

Nice camp ground not too cramp , you have to back up to camp site , #48, each site is close to water, there are 2 dump station near registration booth but when we were there mostly raining .  Will come back. 

We enjoyed nice pull though for our 31' Class A.
Clean, good facilities, no issues with any connections. 
Definitely a favorite camp...

Spacious sites on the water surrounded by trees with room between. There are tables a grill, too. There is a little playground just down the road with was newly paved and smooth. Sites are level and hard packed sand. Wonderful walking trails all around too. Verizon 3 bars. Shower house is not heated but showers are warm enough to enjoy and controllable.  We were here over Thanksgiving and enjoyed every minute of it.

Beautiful, senic, quiet, well kept, level spacious sites, table fire pit Bench lake on the water (#9) and just a shirt walk to bathroom.shower is controllible, though the bathhouse is a little tired, it is clean. Verizon is 2 bars. With Sr Pass it's 1/2 price. What a bargain!

We stayed in #55, a spacious interior pull thru, plenty roomy for our 36’ MH + 16’ MC Trl. The sites are very private and lots of shade.  Friendly host couple, great mtn bike trails.  Like that we can take all we want of downed trees for firewood.

What a wonderful spot!  Right on Lake Thurmond.  Walked right from out site down into the water. Well maintained facility.  Sites are big although may not fit all types of rigs.  We’re only 23 ft so we had plenty of room and the site could’ve held two large tents along with the Picnic table, Fire pit and charcoal grill already there. Friendly camp hosts, clean showers and bath.  Some sites have sewer it appeared, ours didn’t but we didn’t care.  Water and electric were all we needed.  We’ll be back

Site 51 is on one of the islands. Very spacious and easy walk access to the lake. Staff very friendly. Beautiful sunsets. 

One of our favorites when on the area to visit family in Augusta. Quiet and scenic, just what we like.
