Penmarallter Campsite

Busy Fall weekend, needed a spot for Saturday night.  Called Thursday - "No spot - call tomorrow - maybe a cancellation".  Called Saturday AM, they had a spot for the night, FHU, worked fine for us.  Sites are fairly close together, but park is clean, folks are friendly.  If there was traffic we never heard it!

Location on hwy so easy to locate. Stayed two nights for a wedding in area. Owner very knowledgeable on area attractions and very helpful. Sites  
are close together and not really a destination campground but perfect for what we needed. We have a 43’ coach and tow a full size pickup. No issues with that. Campground is clean and felt very safe. Pet friendly also.  Pay attention when booking for weekends. Renting a Thursday and Friday site requires you to book and pay for Saturday night too whether you need it or not. They evidently don’t split up the weekends, so talk to the office to understand this rule. 

Road noise was much worse than other reviews indicated. I would recommend asking for a site in the row further from the highway and maybe near the office.  Bathrooms were clean and sites were larger than most private campgrounds.   My only other concern is that they had numerous rules making them not family friendly like extras for more than 2 children or a tent or visitors for more than 2 hours?  Probably why everyone was a retired couple staying there as we were also so wasn’t an issue for us. Just seemed like more rules and extras than any other campgrounds I have been to. And a cash or check only policy which is also unheard of in 2024? 

Stayed one night. Owners (maybe they are the managers) Stan and Penny are very nice. I have a small camper and I was able to level it on the gravel/grass site. The bathrooms are old but very clean. Spacious immaculate grounds to walk my dog.  

This is an attractive park nicely spaced among trees. There is grass between sites and two large grass fields on the outskirts of the park. Unfortunately, the sites could use some maintenance. Site 10, where we were directed to set up, has had some gravel dumped on one end of the site, but not leveled properly, leaving a low area in the middle, and a dramatic slope (and immediate turn) on the exit side. The park is 30+ years old, without sewer hookups, and while it’s kept up well, the details clouded our enjoyment. The prices are in the mid to high area for what you get, and any weekend stay must also include Friday, whether you are onsite on Friday or not, you must pay for it, no ifs, ands, or buts. Bottom line? Pretty, but needs updating, both site and rules.

Great campground.  The owner was extremely helpful, and the camping facilities are immaculate.

The owners deserve all the accolades that they are receive. Very nice campground,  our second time here and the we enjoy our time here. Spacious sites, shade and quiet nights. 

Highly recommend this campground. Plenty of room in sites. Sites are clean and well kept. Owners constantly working to keep campground this way. Plenty to see in the area.

Pennie & Stan were so kind to us as new travel trailer owners!  We were completely satisfied in every way with the beautiful surroundings, their fee structure, and their excellent service. We also were amazed at the ample space between campers; we never felt crowded. Thanks, Stan for your “honey wagon” dump; so much simpler than my doing it while we were in the process of departure.  We look forward to a return trip!

This is a great place to stay. We called last minute to check availability and within 2 hours had a call back that she had a cancellation and we could get in. Large sites that are level and very clean. Owners live on site. Extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again if we are in this area. 

This is so easy to find. Very clean restrooms. Mowed, level sites. Traffic sounds subsided later at night.

Liked our first visit we stayed a few more days. Highly recommend. 

We spent 6 nights here. Sites are level, lots of grass and trees. Owners live on site and keep the tree branches back so no running into them. Not far from North Shore Drive aka Highway 61 but road noise is minimal. Clean bathrooms. Owners are Very helpful. Owners lead you to site in their 4 wheeler. Not all sites are full hookup but they have a honey wagon. Very peaceful stay. We will definitely stay again. Make reservations! They stay busy. 

First off the people who own and run this park are very nice. But anything larger than 38 to 40 feet should probably be looking for other parks. Owner was cutting off branches so we could get in without ruining paint job.  No sewer but a stay of 5 nights result in one free Honey Wagon pump out.  I think it is $10 per pump after that????  No wifi as advertised but 4G worked.  Electric and water were OK.
They do backup to highway so if you were in back row it would be quite noisy I think.  We were directly across from their home and office so not to bad. 

Wonderful management. Tidy yet rustic bathrooms it impeccably clean. Big grassy sites lots of extra grass and places for the dogs to run. 
Close to Duluth and Two Harbors. Great smoked fish Russ Kendall and best candy shop on road outside of Two Harbors ( scenic 61)
Downsides. The site we had had no dump owner  came when we needed it w the HONEY WAGON  not too convenient
Hwy noise during day light and holidays

This is a campground with very large sites.  Water and electric only.  They yse a honey-wagon for all but five sites.  We had reservations for a full hookup site, but were not told of the honey-wagon until after we paid.  The owner lectured us on how RV'ers want so much now; when just a picnic table and fire-ring was all that used to be necessary.  Funny thing is they removed most of the fire-rings.  We stayed four nights and did not use the honey-wagon.  We will not return to this park.

As a secondary, note when we asked about touring in the area the owner was not informative at all. She simply handed us a brochure about Two Harbors.

Super nice owners and they keep a nice clean campground. Treat you like you wanted to be treated. Will come back again

We didn't stay here but stopped in to check it out.  Super nice owners,  neat and tidy campground.  We will defiantly stay here next time.
