Cherry Glen Campground

Seems like a good place to spend time, but I was on my way from Texas to Minnesota so only stayed the one night. Nice site backed up to the lake and near the shower house. Would definitely come back!

Four stars only because of limited hookups. This was the second time I stayed at Cherry Glen in my 35' 5th wheel. I was in site #72, a back-in spot overlooking the lake and just down from the bathhouse. In my opinion it is one of the best spots for a nice view and there is a path down to the lake at the back of the next site over. I had electric hookups and there is a dump station that is easy to get in and out of. with fresh water easy to access as well. The only complaint is that the water in the bathhouse close to me never seemed to get really hot. It was lukewarm at best. Since it was pretty cold in the mornings I went over to one of the other bath houses to shower where the water was nice and hot with good water pressure. I think this is a great place to hang out. You feel like you are in the woods, but there is a major metro very close by if you need anything. Firewood is available just outside the  CG at a couple of roadside stands.  The roads are asphalt and can be a little bit tight depending on how sharp the angle is to back into  individual sites. #72 was easy since it was on a curve of the road. There was plenty of room to park the RV and the truck. I will definitely stay there again when I go to Des Moines.

I was taking my 5th wheel out on my first camping trip. I had booked a site that upon arrival I could see that I was not capable of backing my unit into it. Linda was the campground host and went out of her way to rebook me and then even came over with Rich to make sure I got situated in the site properly. Very helpful and very friendly. 

I was in site 125 for two nights while my roof was being replaced. The CG has lots of shade. Roads are a bit narrow and some sites are more level than others.  Be careful of which site you pick if you have a large rig and needs lots of space to make tight turns backing in. There was plenty of room between each site from what I could see. I did not use the shower facilities. The water and dump station  was very easy to access and could accommodate more  than one rig.  The park was quiet (and I was on a main street) and is conveniently located near Saylorville Lake. I have reservations to go back in 3 months.  Rating is 4 stars since they do not offer full hookups.

This place it's extremely well maintained. It was built by the Army Corps of Engineers and seems to be well funded for upkeep. Sits on the bank of the Saylorville Lake. Lots of shade fun things for the kids to do. 3 bathroom/showers facilities scattered throughout the park. Two things of note. The address is very similar with either Place Avenue or Street. If you don't get it perfect your GPS will get you close but in a very roundabout way. I recommend just pushing on the directions button on the RV parking app. II is very near 2 Cherry Glen is the campground called Rob Shetler Park which overlooks the dam and spillway. Same pricing structure built by the Corps of Engineers and seems like a pretty cool place to stay. You might want to check it out before you check in to the Cherry Glen campground. Either one you can't go wrong. Perhaps it's staying 3 or 4 days Cherry Glen would be a better choice

We've been here many times. Sites are large but very few have a view of the lake. What I like is the Neil Smith Trail is right at the campground entrance. It's a short walk to a large meadow for bird watching.  Cycling on the trail is a real pleasure as it takes you all the way to downtown Des Moines. 

Although it gets crowded on the weekends, most of the sites have plenty of room between them and there is a lot of shade.  All sites have electricity and water and the dump station is free when you camp.  There is potable water at the dump station and water spigots located throughout the campground.  The shower and bathrooms were spotless and the campground is well kept overall.  The sites are all gravel, mostly level, and most can accommodate even the biggest of rigs with extra parking spaces, if needed, are interspersed throughout the campground.  Great place to stay and the campground hosts are friendly and helpful.
