Big Sioux State Recreation State Park

We stayed one night here in this great and quiet campground. Sites leveled and easy to get in with enough space to any neighbors. Kids liked the playground. Bathrooms clean and very nice lady in the office. Dump station and water on the campground, we had a 50 Amp site.  Would definitely recommend to stay here

This state park is how campgrounds should be. Quiet, shaded, nice spacious level sites. Some am traffic noise. Clean with metal picnic tables, Peastone pads and fire ring. Would certainly return. Price is right at $35. Electric but no water at sights.

Nice state park, but a little spendy for one overnight stay; especially if you’re an out of state resident.  $26.00 to camp(electric only), $7.70 nonresident fee, and $8.00 park fee, plus tax.  

This is a lovely, quiet park with 50 & 30 amp power. Water and sewer, and trash are at the entrance. Nice bathrooms, hot showers. Good value at $35 plus park entrance fee.

Out of the blue, they will walk up to your campsite and charge you an extra $8 a night

Beautiful park, sites closer together and lots of trees. Enjoyed a quiet evening, grilled out and met the host couple.  Super stop.   Definitely take the GPS “longer” route. That avoids a 5 mile dirt road full of washboard bumps.  Not only were we charged an admin fee there is an additional fee for out of state.  Making the total a bit crazy 34+7.95 +8

We have a 43 ft and could get in the back in site without a lot of difficulty.  There were some branches that had to be moved out of the way but once in the site we had lots of room for our slides and awning.  Nice green space and very quiet with sufficient distance between sites to feel quite private.

This is a good sized Campground with lots of room between sites.  The large mostly level back-in sites are off asphalt streets.  They are electric only, the hookup was convenient.  You can fill your water tank in a couple of spots, and dump on the way out.  Nice area for your fire ring, and picnic table.  Predictably no WiFi or cable TV, but there are a few over the air stations available.  Lots of trees so satellite reception may be limited.

Family of 4 stayed here for 2 nights to explore Sioux Falls. Very large campsites with lots of grassy space in between. Awesome paved bike trail, playgrounds, hiking trails, disc gold course, and more! Spots were nice and shaded and well maintained. 15-20 mins from Sioux Falls  and 5 mins from a grocery store. Electric only sites, but have a dump and water station. Must buy a parking pass (either daily or annual). Loved it!

Very nice place to stay. Highly recommend. 

Great State Park! Sites are big, and bathrooms are clean and no costs for hot water. Only hookup is electric, but there is a dump station and fresh water station if you want to fill your fresh water tank upon arriving at the campground. Sites 3E to 10E are close to the bathrooms; sites 1E and 2E are right next to the bathroom. For the other sites, there is a walk to the bathroom or they have a couple of toilets. 

FYI though, there is a $2 fee for making reservations over the phone and also a nominal fee if you live out of state. There is also an additional fee for permits, either a $6 fee daily or monthly fee. If you are visiting several state parks in SD, the monthly fee is the cheaper option.

We stayed here two nights the end of July 2019. Sites are electric, no water at campsite but available. Large shady, private sites. With the $7.70 non resident fee and the $6 entrance fee the site was around $30 per night. Lots of hiking, disc golf, archery course, bike trails, and canoe launch. The Big Sioux was up so some of the trails were under water. 

Lovely park with several sites backing right up to the Big Sioux River. Even though the river was flooding when we stayed, CG was secure.  Bath house very clean, great hot water.  Sites around 40E are most spacious
State park has an entrance fee of $6 on top of camp reservation; would prefer they just include it in resv fees
Only downside is the park is just at the edge of a residential area, so access is somewhat cramped if coming in from I-90
Definitely would stay again

This park has large lots for camping. There's a clean bathroom with hot showers. We enjoyed the sounds of birds throughout the day and frogs in the evening. We got a few pictures of Cardinals and Blue Jays.

Really enjoyed our stay. Very clean large lots. 

Reserve on line and time of arrival does not matter!  They also have an 800 number!  Knats are sometimes brutal!   Bug spray helps a little.  Would definitely stay here again!  Only one camp site didn’t know what “light pollution” is !  

What a beautiful park to camp in for a few days. If it had full hookups I might never leave. Large sites, lots of trees, very spacious sites. Electric only. You would never realize that it’s here driving past the school and neighborhood. Reservations will get you in quicker. We did not realize this because the website was not clear about that. But, there is a phone at front gate to call and make them if you haven’t already. Someone complained about ticks. Well it’s my opinion that you are in the woods, you should have your dogs tick and flea protection and maybe camping is not right for you. 😁 we live in our 40 ft Motorhome and found this the perfect place. But highly recommend you calling for reservations first. Camp host very friendly and helpful. Will be back. 

We stayed for several nights. Our spot was private even though we were right next to the trail. Everything was clean though after the weekend (we arrived on a Monday) the trash dumpsters were overflowing. 
Our last evening there we were treated to the sight of several hot air balloons taking off and flying over our campsite. 

Check in after-hours was time consuming without reservations, but cheap enough to make it worthwhile. Ranger arrived unexpectedly and I was finally checked in after 20 minutes of playing on the phone system.

I had to wait for the weekend fall-down stumbling cigarette smoking drunks to move their pickup trucks out of the way to pass. All state parks should be forced to ban drinking and smoking to keep state funding, IMO.

Sunday the party crowd leaves and you can hike up Prairie Vista (2.2m) and see views from the top on a bench. Valley of the Giants trail is good also, level 2.

There is a dump and a fresh water station that is open in April. There is no laundry and no Wi-Fi, but a few OTA stations that came in clear. Cell signal is decent.

The ticks are unusually aggressive and abundant for a natural area, which may mean an overpopulation of deer. Dogs picked up several just going out to the tree and jumped on me, as well.

I will tell you that the locals use the CG as a dog park during the off-season, so watch your step!  Although the park is open year-round, most sites can be flooded from melting snow, making usability impossible.  I am a full-timer myself and have visited this park on many occasions.

Very nice, very clean, really inexpensive.  We pulled in, called the reservation number posted and everything went very smoothly.  Because we called same day there was no reservation fee normally charged to out of staters. With electric the total cost tax included was $20.05 

Nicely wooded, well-maintained gravel sites, recently upgraded elec service. Friendly staff!
