Atlatl Rock Campground - Valley of Fire State Park

We loved this park, lots of varied hikes and petroglyphs. Very helpful at the visitors center. The sites were very good and the scenery amazing. 2 of the 3 bathrooms were closed for renovations during our stay.  The bathrooms were clean but in need of upgrading.   

We were lucky to be one of the first to be able to actually reserve a site at this campround! Reservation began on September 1st. We reserved site 40 with power and water. Didn't realize how unlevel the site was when looking at photos, but we were able to get our 31' travel trailer level with some effort! But other than that the camp is perfect! Very quiet at night. Love the covered picnic table area too. We used our Starlink and it worked very well under the open skies! We will definitely stay here again,  but in a different site!

Stayed in Atlatl campground in the hook up section for RV’s. Site #26 was huge and an easy back in for a 5th wheel. Has a bit of a grade that was easily handled by a few blocks under the landing gear. Campground is clean and well maintained and hook up pedestals are modern and have both 30/50 amp plug in, and breakers. Location is amazing and nestled in huge rock formations and a few close canyons that are perfect for walking dogs. There is a dump station at the campground entrance with water fill, station was out of service when we checked in but fully operational on departure. It’s a walk up only system, which I think is great so you don’t have reserved sites that are never used by inconsiderate campers. Rates are $20 per night for standard non-hookup sites and an extra $10 for the water and electric sites. Total daily rate is $30 which includes the daily park fee. Self pay is on site and sufficiently explained at the pay location.  

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in site 36 in the Atatl loop, a 50Amp E/W PT site for $35/night. It’s a FCFS campground so you choose a site then go register. The roads/sites were gravel and it was pretty easy to navigate around the loop. This site was huge and looked out over the landscape from the covered picnic table. Spacing of other sites varies, some were close and others were spaced well apart. Some of the sites had hookups on the wrong side if you backed in, but would be ok if you had a Class A or C and drove in so look closely before you pick your spot. The bathhouse was nice, I didn’t use the showers. The dump station was easy to get in and out of. No wifi, no OTA, 1 bar on Verizon. Arch Rock loop has some really cool spots but is only for smaller campers or tents. The road out of Arch Rock loop has some really tight turns that would be hard for larger rigs to get through. The big horn sheep were quite comfortable wandering through the campground which was cool to see in the mornings. The ranger said that some of them had learned how to turn on the water spigots by hooking a horn under the lever handle. The hiking was fabulous. Be sure to go all the way back and hike Fire Wave/7 Wonders trails. I would definitely stay there again.

I felt like I was staying at a different campground than other reviewers.  I was expecting clean showers, instead they were awful.  Two out of order, one doesn't lock, the other two were just gross with hair and scum.

We thought those sites were nicer so stayed there 3 nights.

Lots of hiking trails nearby.  Very pretty area.   I wish I could give this place five stars, but those showers...

Figured we stay one night ended up staying three. The weather was warm (hot) so we stayed for the showers using this as our base to travel/hike the area. Heard getting a spot at Atlatl due to first come first serve would be difficult, we found the complete opposite. We arrived mid day plenty of spots to choose from with and without electric/water. We chose a spot with electric/water for convenience of our truck camper. Many different rigs of all types and sizes. Most folks seemed to only stay one-two nights so there were many open spots daily. Restrooms and showers were clean but not exceptional. Park was very pleasant and quiet. There are many hiking trails for all skill levels but inconsistencies in some of the maps so make sure you check with knowledgeable folks or sources before heading out. We found all the trails short and long excellent hikes. We would certainly return.

Beautiful campground! Sign stated FULL, but at least half the sites were available! We loved this area for a winter campsite 

Fantastic scenery and great camping area. Tents to electric and water hookups. Dump station nearby. Nice tidy facilities and plenty of room. Take plenty of water for can get very hot. When it's not blistering hot, there is plenty to see and do.

Just finished a 14 day stay at the Atlatl campground in the RV section. The rate is $30/day unless you have a Senior Citizen or Disabled State Park Pass. If you have either of these passes, your rate for the RV section is $10/day. If you stay in the regular section your rate is $0! Park is first come, first served. Don’t even think of arriving on a Friday afternoon and expect to find a spot. All sites are gravel. Our rig with trailer is 60 feet long. There are several sites we fit into. Some sites are very sloped and almost impossible to get level. We loved our stay there and $140/14 days with water and 50amp service is a real bargain. This is the ONLY campground that can take big rigs. Do not even think of entering the Arch Rock campground if your rig is longer than 25 feet. You will regret it. Arch Rock has no hookups. There is an RV dump station and potable water/trash dumpsters right outside the campground. 

Many roads are in need of repaving, all campsites are first-come. Calling park is a waste of time. They don't know which sites are occupied or if they are full and seemingly don't care. All the park staff seem to have a negative attitude. Beautiful vistas and great hikes to the Fire Wave, White Dones, Rainbow Vista and Elephant Rock. All relatively easy. Day visitors from Las Vegas start showing up around 10 am, swamping the park. WiFi is spotty and costs money. Desert bighorn sheep were spotted in the campground!!

Two parks. Stayed in Atlatl. Not many sites with hookups but water at all I believe. People drive thru like idiots kicking up huge clouds of dust. Just hope wind favors you. Spartan bathrooms & showers but beats dry camping.  Other campground favors smaller rigs & has tight turns thru rocks.  You get charged $10.00 to enter with little to no help from staff if campsites are available, however if you do find a site fee is applied towards camp fees.   Poor effort on states part with regards to availability of camping. Minimal effort to make sites level or rv rig friendly. So much more could be done to make campgrounds worthy of the rest of the experience. Rest of park is awesome with some nice short hikes. NOTE - closest store etc. is 30 minutes or so away so come prepared. 

Most of the rv sites are nice and wide. But the water and power hookups are on the wrong side, only a few on the correct side for backing in a trailer or 5th.  Make sure to bring an extention 30amp cord and at least 70 feet of hose to give yourself the most flexibility. views from the campground are amazing and kids go crazy for the bouldering. best day hikes would be White Domes and Mouse  Tank if you only have time for two.

Kids loved bouldering here.  We couldn't find a map, so I've uploaded one here.  Basically, middle of the park has RV at the Atlas site and arch site is camping with water spigots. 

Incredibly gorgeous campgrounds. First come, first served, no reservations. There are two, Arch Rock & Atlatl.  There are 72 sites. There are some E/W sites in Atlatl but I'm not sure how many.  Some of the sites are really nestled back into the rocks. If you need cell phone service, AT&T did not work for me in most of the CG. And T-Mobile was a no-go as well.  Friends reported Verizon did work. If the campgrounds are full as happens often, there is good boondocking approx 3 miles north of the intersection of Valley of Fire Rd & Northshore Drive.  It's a huge mesa on the right as you're heading north to Overton and is referred to as "Poverty Flats" or "Snowbird Mesa".  Great AT&T service there.

This Nevada State Park is definitely worth checking out. There is a $10 daily entry fee / $10 camping fee/ $10 water&electric for a limited number of sites. ($30 total for hookups each day) A dump site is available. Bathrooms were very clean. Showers cost $0.25 for five minutes. The park has great rock formations, with some fun hikes, both short and longer. Even if you don't hike, it is worth the drive and overnight. There is an informative visitor's center.  If you have a dog and tag team your entrance to the visitor's center, there is a shaded area in the back of the building. Leashed dogs are allowed on the hiking trails.
Stayed here in a 25' motor home, 30 amp electrical. We plan to visit again.
