Newton Hills State Park

  Stayed for two nights on our way to visit family. Campground is a ways off the beaten path, but the access roads were wide and easily traveled in our  43'DP with toad. There is an additional daily fee for your toad at SD state parks unless you have an annual pass. 
  Be aware, there were a lot of low hanging branches within the campground that can cause troubles for the bigger rigs.
  We checked in with a very friendly, helpful ranger. The campground is fairly large and the layout is somewhat confusing. We actually set up on the wrong campsite! Luckily for us, when we went to the office to explain the situation, they were able to transfer our reservation so we did not need to move.
  50a power at the site worked as expected. Potable water available at several areas in the campground to fill the fresh tank.  Dump station at campground entrance. Park has lots of planned activities, trails and biking is easy. We did not use the showers or bathrooms. 
  Closest town is Canton, about 7 miles out. Small grocery store and Dollar General there for basic supplies. 
  Just want to mention - one of our dogs needed to see a vet during our stay. We got an appointment at Companion Animal Clinic in Canton.  Dr. Brad Peterson took fantastic care of our girl and was friendly, professional and caring. 

Stayed here for only 1 night but was a very nice  campground. They have a lake nearby but it was completely dried up because of the lack of rain and snow. Sites were far enough apart for privacy and set back in rhe woods. Bath houses wete clean and moderen enough. Very nice staff. A little off the Interstate but was worth the drive. Would stay there again if in the area. Electric only at the sites with water available at different points in the campground 

Park has electric only at each site. Ability to fill water tanks at the park. Gravel back in sites. Restrooms are clean. 

We needed to get away for a quick weekend trip and this was it. Close to home, but out and away from everything. The spots are so spacious and the park itself is amazing. We love to ride bikes and hike around all day.  Across the main road is Lake Lakota where kids can swim, or you can fish. It is a nice place to cool off or just adventure some more. 

There is only electric hook ups, but they do have a dump station with potable water. This is a nice little get away. 

We have Verizon and had 1 bar 4G. Calls and texts went through just fine, but data was hit and miss. But you can go a few miles up the road towards Canton and have good signal.
